In Australia, there are currently 22 electric vehicles on the market. Nine of these are battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 13 are plug in hybrids (PHEVs). Six of these vehicles are under $65,000 AUD. The largest vehicle segment is the SUV.
By 2020, it is expected that nine more electric vehicles will be available: six BEVs and three PHEVs. Electric vehicle model availability in Australia is currently limited due to a lack of fuel efficiency standards, high upfront vehicle purchase costs, and lack of policy support.[1]
